Cumberland Galleria Showcase

We’re looking forward to seeing you at the inaugural Cumberland Galleria Showcase breakfast event on Wed., Feb. 11. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at www.cumberlandgalleriashowcase.com. Individual tickets are $55 and groups of 10 tickets are $495.

The program will begin with networking, coffee and breakfast at 7 a.m. in the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre lobby, followed by an entertaining and informative program from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the Centre’s John A. Williams Theatre.

“The Cumberland Galleria Showcase is a great opportunity to reflect on the area’s achievements to date and to look toward the market’s future potential,” said Sam Olens, Chairman of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, who will deliver a message via video. “We will celebrate Cumberland Galleria’s unique offerings, which include vibrant business, cultural, residential and recreational facilities.”

The entertainment portion will feature performances from two of the Cobb Energy Centre’s resident companies — The Atlanta Opera and Atlanta Ballet. Maria McDaniel Dikin, an Atlanta Opera soloist will perform an aria, and Atlanta Ballet will perform selections from Dracula. The Weather Channel’s Vivian Brown will emcee the event, and confirmed speakers include Tad Leithead with Cousins Properties; Sam Olens; Michael Taormina, Managing Director of the Cobb Energy Centre and Charles Yates with The Atlanta Opera. The program will also feature a panel discussion among leaders of several businesses located in the Cumberland Galleria area.

Washington Debates Stimulus Funding

You’ve heard about Congress and President Obama’s plans for a stimulus package to recharge the economy. The Cumberland CID Board of Directors is watching this closely in order to leverage funds for the local community.

To be in the best position possible to receive any funds, the CID Board recently submitted 32 different projects to state and federal partners totaling $153 million worth of improvements in the community. For its part, the CID has invested more than $10 million to advance the design and engineering. By doing so, projects become “shovel-ready” and therefore higher-priority for the funding, should it become available.

“We are very excited for what the stimulus package could mean for our district,” said Tad Leithead, chairman of the Cumberland CID board of directors. “The potential to have our projects 100% funded is unprecedented.”

Additionally, the CID continues to identify other federal, state and local funding avenues, to bring its projects to construction.
