Atlanta, October 13, 2011 – The Atlanta Regional Transportation Roundtable unanimously approved a $6.14 billion project list to be funded by a 10-year, 1 percent Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST). The TSPLOST will be voted on by Georgians in a July 31, 2012 referendum. The final project list includes 57 key transportation projects from the 10-county metro Atlanta region.
Included on the final project list is $984 million for transportation projects in Cobb County, including $689 million for enhanced premium transit service from Acworth to the MARTA Arts Center Station in Midtown Atlanta; $292 million for roadway projects; and $3.2 million for improvements to McCollum Airport.
According to the Atlanta Regional Commission, the list would save the region $800 million in wasted time and fuel and enable 250,000 additional workers to get to jobs by car in 45 minutes or less. An additional 590,000 commuters would be able to access jobs by mass transit in 45 minutes or less.
The goal of the Atlanta Regional Transportation Roundtable, created by the Transportation Investment Act of 2010, is to create a transportation project list that will have a positive effect on families and businesses around the entire region. Click here to view the final project list.
